Oh the shame! The 3am Chicken Shame!!
This diet has crashed and burned (I’m secretly a little happy about it). So it started with chicken. Yes, chicken – the universal meat that no carnivore can say they dislike the taste of. The wife and I spent hours tossing and turning in bed craving meat protein. This veg only diet in the evening was not flying with us any more, after 30+ years of being a carnivore at dinner time – it’s a difficult routine to shake.
So there was only one thing for it. A perfectly carved roasted chicken lay in slumber, teasing us from the refrigerator and gently whispering the phrase ‘EAT me’. It had been prepared for our lunch and was marinated, roasted and portioned – in other words, ready to go. 1.5 hours passed of this sumptuous bird calling us – we had both had enough.
At 3am, stomaches growling and patience extinct, I plated up some chicken for the both of us and we consumed every morsel in the ravenous delusional state we had deteriorated into. It felt so good! Finally feeling full and normal again, I nodded off into a calm state of serenity. Oh how I missed meat in the evening.
We awoke in the morning feeling surprisingly refreshed, no sluggishness and no bloating. Woop woop – we had got away with the guilty pleasure. 🙂 Did we stop there? Nope.
Date night came around and we had a pre-booked dinner reservation (made a month ago may I say)! There was no way we were cancelling, we’d waited too long. Thai cuisine is not exactly compliant (the way it’s made traditionally) with the diet, however 1 cheat meal won’t hurt, will it?!
The evening started with good intentions as we browsed the menu. It is fair to say that it did not end with the same intentions in mind. The glorious array of food was both delicious and a spot unhealthy. Would I change any of the items ordered…not a chance!
Appetizers were Thai chicken wings and spring rolls.
Thai chicken curry noddles as a main to share.
Finally, sticky coconut rice with mango for dessert…YUMMMMM!!
If you’re ever in Toronto and have a craving for Thai food ..checkout Pai! You will not be disappointed.
Rating: A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! It’s a thumbs up from us..especially after a beer or 2. 🙂
1 cheat meal and 1 chicken binge at 3am down – but still continuing the diet other than that.
I’ll keep you all posted on any further slip ups…(hopefully not too many more).
